Exporting & Custom Domains
Export your app
The Export button appears in the editor header for any saved app. It gives you two options.
Download as ZIP
Downloads all of your app's files as a ZIP archive — no account requirements on the receiving end.
- Click Export in the editor header
- Select Download ZIP
- A
.zipfile is saved to your downloads folder containing your app's full file tree
Export to GitHub
Pushes your app to a brand new GitHub repository using your connected GitHub account.
- Click Export in the editor header
- Select Export to GitHub
- Enter a repository name (letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores)
- Choose public or private
- Click Export — a link to the new repo appears when it's ready
Each export creates a fresh repository with your files committed to the default branch. It is a one-way snapshot — changes you make in CDBX after export are not synced automatically.
Server-backed apps: every export also includes a generated
DockerfileandRUN.mdso it runs standalone with no cdbx involved at all — see Self-hosting an App. If your app already has its ownDockerfile, cdbx leaves it as-is.
Open PR on GitHub
Push your app's files to an existing GitHub repository as a new branch and open a pull request for review.
- Click Export in the editor header
- Select Open PR on GitHub
- Enter the repository in
owner/repoformat - Set a branch name (defaults to
cdbx/<app-name>) - Set a PR title and optional description
- Click Open PR — a link to the pull request appears when it's ready
Requires your GitHub account to be connected via Settings → Connectors.
From AI chat
You can also trigger both GitHub flows directly from the AI chat if GitHub is connected:
- "Create a new GitHub repo called my-app" — the AI creates the repo and pushes all files
- "Open a PR on myorg/myrepo" — the AI creates a branch, commits all files, and opens a PR; you'll get a direct link in the chat response
Custom domains (Pro)
Pro users can serve a published app from their own domain instead of the default cdbx.ai/username/slug URL.
Setup
- Open your app in the editor and make sure it is published
- Click Domain in the editor header
- Enter your domain (e.g.
demo.yoursite.com) and click Add - In your DNS provider, add a CNAME record:
- Host / Name: the subdomain you want (e.g.
demo) - Value / Target:
cname.vercel-dns.com
- Host / Name: the subdomain you want (e.g.
- Once DNS has propagated, click the refresh icon next to your domain to verify
After verification, anyone visiting your domain will see your published app. SSL is handled automatically by Vercel.
Notes
- Only verified and published apps are served on custom domains
- Each domain can only be attached to one app at a time
- Removing a domain from the panel also removes it from Vercel
